In response to the signing of the National Mayor's Climate Change Agreement, a national group with local roots called Step It Up hosted a public climate change awareness festival on November 24th on 5th Ave S. in downtown Naples, Fl.
The Rookery Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve partnered with the Collier County Water and Solid Waste Management Departments, South Flor idaWater Management District, and Florida Gulf Coast University to present the latest on the science behind global warming, water conservation, and useful tips and products for the general public. The Gulf of Mexico Alliance is heading for a television near you.
Comcast Cable is airing a series from 4:30 to 5 p.m. Sundays on channel 35 based on Gulf of Mexico Alliance workshops held at Rookery Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve earlier this year.
Comcast is airing segments based on three Southwest Florida community workshops this year that focused on red tide, water woes, climate change and sustainable growth.
This Sunday, April 22, the program will feature Collier County Water Director Paul Mattausch and City of Naples environmental specialist Katie Fuhr to talk about water management. The series will continue for the next several months. Read Article |

A program about the effects of sea level rise in Southwest Florida is scheduled to splash across Naples television screens this weekend. The 30-minute program, scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Saturday on Comcast channel 35, is part of a series of episodes based on public participation workshops sponsored by Rookery Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve this spring.
Saturday's episode will feature Florida Gulf Coast University marine science professor Michael Savarese.
